Many thanks to all of the long-time supporters and new friends of the Whatcom Parks and Recreation Foundation who came out the The Roeder Home for the Foundation’s 8th Annual Holiday Mixer and Awards Presentation on December 9, 2015. The beautiful Roeder Home was decorated for the holidays and provided a wonderful backdrop for the evening’s festivities. Guests of the Foundation enjoyed casual appetizers, desserts, and beverages as they mingled with members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. At 7pm guests gathered together in the drawing room for the highlight of the evening: the presentation of the William Dittrich award recognizing outstanding volunteer service to the parks, trails, and recreation community in Whatcom County.
The 2015 Dittrich Award winner Brain Griffin accepted the award in outstanding style, bringing along his weekly ukulele group to cheer him on. Foundation President, Daniel Tepper presented the award. Leslie Bryson, newly-appointed director of the city of Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department, worked with Brian for many years on several of the most notable projects that he helped to bring to life. Leslie shared some amusing stories about their time working together, much to the delight of the crowd. Following the formal award presentation, Mr. Griffin and his ukulele brethren led the crowd in lively round of caroling. It will be hard to top that entertainment at next year’s mixer!
