2015 – It Was a Great Year!

As we say farewell to 2015, we here at the Whatocm Parks and Recreation Foundation are grateful for all of the good friends, volunteers, and donors we have had the privilege to connect with this year.  Your support makes it possible for our small community non-profit to continue on with our mission to support and promote parks, trails, recreational opportunities throughout Whatcom County, all of its cities and communities.
We have accomplished much this year: marking the opening of the second official segment of the Nooksack Loop Trail, hosting our second annual Summer Walk & Tour event series, distributing over $2600 to five local projects through our Helping Hand Grant Program, and recognizing Brian Griffin as the 2015 recipient of the William Dittrich Award for his volunteer service to local parks and recreation.

While we are proud of our programs and projects, our real pride comes from the support that we are able to provide to many wonderful agencies and volunteer groups hard at work in our county.  The new roof at the Hovander House in Hovander Park by our friends at Whatcom County Parks & Rec, development along the Squalicum Creek corridor that will connect Cornwall Park to Sunset Pond from our friends at Bellingham Parks & Rec, great fundraising efforts from the Maple Falls community to help build a new park, and so many more!  Thank you for your ongoing efforts to maintain and improve our parks, trails, and recreation resources.

2015 was a great year, and we look forward to being involved in more projects and we embark upon a new event and fundraiser: the Hovander Homestead Bluegrass Festival.  We hope you will join us in 2016, and lend your support to these worthy efforts.
