Thanks to everyone who joined WPRF at The Parks and Partners Auction on June 5th, 2015.

It was a beautiful afternoon at Depot Market Square in downtown Bellingham.  The sun was shining, a gentle breeze blowing, and a surprise cruise-by of the annual Bellingham Naked Bike Ride.  True recreationists in action! Kelly’s O’Deli kept our guests fueled during the silent auction with delicious appetizers and dessert, and Boundary Bay generously provided 2 varieties of beer for guests to enjoy on our sunny spring afternoon.

Thanks to all of our sponsors, supporters, and invited guests who help us raise over $12,000 to support the Foundation continue in our mission tot promote  and encourage public and private support for parks, trails, recreational opportunities, and natural resources in Whatcom County, its cities, and communities.

Our general silent auction featured two sections with over 72 packages, offering a wide range of experiences, services, and items.  Our hottest items of the evening were an Island Mariner kayak, a weekend in a cabin at Silver Lake Park, and a weekend in a condo in the Yaletown neighborhood of Vancouver, B.C.

The inclusion of an art section, tied in with the Friday Downtown Art Walk, brought in new participants and boosted our silent auction income.

The live program featured project updates from Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department’s Dick Henrie, Whatcom County Parks and Recreation Director Mike McFarlane, and Mayor Gary Jensen gave an update on parks projects in the City of Ferndale.  Gary also served as our dynamic emcee for the evening, and kept our live program buzzing along.

The highlight of our live program was the announcement of the winners of the 2015 Helping Hand Grant Awards.  The Foundation selected five projects to receive grants in 2015, totaling $2650 in disbursements.  Read more about the winners here.

Several of our partner organizations turned out as well, and shared their news an upcoming projects with the crowd: Nora Short and Doris Roosma from the Maple Falls Park Committee
Steve Watt & Vern Yadon from the Kendall-Columbia Valley Connectivity Plan Association, and Adrienne Lederer from Friends of Big Rock Park

Board president Daniel Tepper shared all that the Foundation has accomplished since our last auction.  Vice president Dan Taylor shared the progress of the Nooksack Loop Trail.

Guests finished the evening with a second social hour, dessert, and a Make-Your-Own Trail Mix bar.

All in all, it was a successful evening for the Foundation, and a memorable night for our guests.
